What medicines help with Panic Disorder and/or Social Phobia?

I am a 20 year old male who suffers from both of these disorders and Ive tried taking zoloft but it puts me in a daze and makes me numb. Are there any medicines that actually help with this sort of stuff? I currently don’t take anything now because for a while I thought I could beat it myself but more and more I feel like I’m losing. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Klonopin works good for me, but you should talk to your doctor about it, preferably a psychiatrist.

    Hun, . . . Ask your doctor (a professional) . . . don’t self medicate.

I’m sorry to hear that yopur not doing too well.
I’ve recently been prescribed citalopram which is often prescribed for panic attacks and general anxiety disorder and have heard many good things about it. I have yet to take it as I don’t believe I really need it but it’s nice to have it there just in case.
You’ll get a lot of this but the best thing to do is talk with your doctor about it. Perhaps a refferal to a psychiatrist would be bennificial. I personally believe that it’s best to tackle these things from as many different angles as possible.
These medications are often a bit of trial and error so you may need to take a few different ones to find the one that suits you best. If you’re not happy with the course of action your doctor recommends then see someone else.
I know these feelings are scary but remember there is help available, and by the sounds of it you’re on your way to getting better.
    Good luck!

I recently started taking Lexapro and I noticed that it began conquering my social anxiety within the first day. Panic disorder may require something with a strict calming effect like Xanax. Perhaps you will need to try several medicines before choosing which is right for you. Search your disorders and phobias in google and see which medicine worked for a majority of people with the same thing.

Usually an antidepressant such as the one you are on plus a tranquilizer. They are both addictive the tranquilizer being more so . The mode of action is to make you oblivious to the anxiety. I don’t know of any targeted medicine that is a cure. I think it has a genetic component which is the reason you are having a hard time defeating it. Being 20 makes it worse because it is the age where a lot of life’s decisions are made and that is stressful for anyone. There is a group called Recovery Incorporated that has meetings in just about every large town. There is no cost to go and that is something they deal with.

I have Panic Disorder too. The Psychologist ever mentioned to me “Xanax”. I have not taken that before. Currently I am under psychology treatment, I see a counsellor every 3 weeks. Maybe you can mention to your doctor about the Xanax. Hope you recover soon. Cheer!

Get out of the chemical remedy mentality. It keeps too many of the wrong people & businesses in operation. There are many excellent, life-long, self-help guides for this and they are best written by those that have been there, but no longer are. Here’s a place to investigate:

Prescription medications can be effective for short-term relief, but symptoms will typicallyreoccur once the medication is stopped.

Symptoms of generalized anxiety disorder include muscle tension, trembling, shortness of breath, fast heartbeat, dry mouth, dizziness, nausea, irritability, loss of sleep and not being able to concentrate. Panic attacks last about 5 to 30 minutes
