Can drinking beer help with back pain?

My dad has been sneaking beers for a long time and I haven’t really told anyone, until I saw one beer in the freezer. Apparently, I caught him and he told me that he drinks for his back pain. Now, I’m aware that he has chronic pain and he takes medicine, but does drinking help with pain or is he just bullcrapping?
