Hi all,
I am a 21 year old male living in Canada. A college student. Last Saturday, I went to the emergency and I was suffering from an mild anxiety attack. After talking with the doctor, my troubling problem went away and I am feeling so well now. But at the moment the doctor refered me to a phychiatrist. My problem now is that now I want to bring all my problems back since I have a phychiatrist appointment in 2 weeks. Why should I worry about my problems again if I am cured.

Talk to your doctor about why he feels you should see a psychiatrist and make your decision then.

Anxiety disorders are not magically cured. It will happen again, worse and more frequently, unless you train your body to respond differently. Keep the appointment-if the dr. thinks your ‘cured’ he’ll tell you anyway.

Cured??? I did know you cure stuff like this with a trip to ER. Keep the appointment for now and see how it goes with the new psych doc.

Has this been the first anxiety attack you’ve had? If so, it might be ok. Everyone has had one at some point in their life. If it hasn’t been the only one, it might not be a bad idea to go. It could be the beginning of a bigger problem.

If it was me, I would go. The psychiatrist may not even address the problem that sent you to emergency, but may discuss different ways to deal with your problems so you can avoid another attack.

Well, you might have an anxiety disorder. You might not, but if you are worrying to this degree- it is entirely possible. I have a-typical anxiety disorder, and it began with mild panic attacks and exploded into something larger. It is always best to nip the problem in the bud- even if there isn’t one. Just err on the safe side.

You don’t loose anything by going, so I say go, let her know what you are thinking, and that you don’t feel like you too continue and see what she says. you will be able to make a much more informed decisions after meeting her!
It is not like you are going to the dentist to have a tooth removed, and there is not going back. You are not committing to anything so go, and the decide!
Good luck!
