Left arm pain and numbness accompanying fast heart rate (anxiety and exercise)?

Jake D asked:
On 4 occasions I have experienced this intensely. Usually when anxiety is occuring.. with a fast heart rate. Once it happened after I ran up 7 flights of stairs. I do not do any cardiovascular workouts so this is alot for me and causes a very fast heart rate.. When this occurs I can feel my artery by my shoulder pulsating very powerfully, there is also pain/discomfort in this area.. I went to the hospital after this happened the second time and was given a chest xray and a EKG and the results were negative. I am planning on seeing my doctor and having a stress test done with a cardiologist. In the mean time, does anyone have any idea what is causing this?? Thanks.
I am 22 years old..
my arms and legs fall asleep quite often and quite easily.. Poor circulation?? related?

Jake I would suggest a blood test next time this happens that tests for the proteins that are made when you are having a cardiovascular infarction. How old are you? what is your Cholesterol level? these are important to know. If you are young, say under 40 I doubt its a heart problem but it could be so be carefull. If you are over 40 you need to take this seriously as it could be a sign of heart problems. A numb arm, increased heart rate and chest pain is what someone who is having a heart attack might have, but it might also be from a nervous disorder which should be treated with therapy and drugs.

Could be angina pectoris or a mild infarction. Go get the CK-MB test for the heart.

There is something going on, but the best thing you can do is listen to the cardiologist. The stress test will tell him exactly what is happening when you work hard and stress your heart, as you do when you run stairs, etc.
