You’d have to be evaluated by a doctor to be officially diagnosed with SAD, since it’s possible to have all the symptoms without actually having it. But I’m not trivializing the pain you’re in nonetheless and it sounds very likely that you do have SAD. You should definitely seek professional help if it’s getting the way of life. I strongly recommend finding a therapist to help you. Your doctor may be able to refer you to one. I’ve been in therapy for social anxiety and it significantly helped. I learned to manage my anxiety and came to understand that things aren’t the way anxiety makes you believe they are.

When I first sought treatment for my mental state, I was diagnosed as having Social Anxiety disorder, Agoraphobia, Chronic Anxiety, Chronic Depression, Bipolar 1 & 2, and latest Schizoaffective disorder. Make an appointment with your doctor, say its an emergency. Tell your doctor your problems, and either from you or the doctor get a referral to a Psychiatrist. Who is an expert on treating mental illnesses. You will get much better care, have appointments more regularly, and more options. Don’t be a first year med student and think you can diagnose yourself. Basically get to a Psychiatrist! Don’t worry about being labeled anything, you are a real person, you define yourself, not your illness. Good Luck.

I think you should get the idea out of your head that you are able to accurately diagnose yourself. Talking to your doctor would be a good thing to do, as they are actually qualified to diagnose and treat any disorders you may have. Your doctor may also have information on other methods to get treatment, help and support.

I dont know about a doctor, they can be hit or miss. But what i find that helps me is goals. Having distractions is what keeps my negative thoughts away. Which I diddn’t find until recently. But now that I have goals and alot of things to keep myself busy my mental probs tend to go away. i still have a terrible time in socal situations, and I’m kinda a shut in most times to avoid people. (i have social anxiety disorder as well, screwed up my college life, diddnt finish it) but positive things to do is the best thing for me. Hope you can do the same.

Yes you should go to your doctor and explain how you are feeling.

Make sure that you write everything down before you go, it’s very easy to forget things once you are in the office.

The doctor will know how to help you or he will send you to someone who can.

Listen, many people have genetical disorders, it is primitive to laugh at them because there’s nothing to laugh at, feel sorry for the ones who laughed at u because they are bunch of brainless heads, leave them alone and don’t care about them, God will judge them when it will be the time to. Yes OFCOURSE u should tell a doctor, that’s why there are doctors in this world really.. There are medicines that will calm u down and u’ll feel more free to hol conversatons(the doctor will probably tell u to take them do NOT take them without a doctor)

You (And everybody that has problems and wants to share) can talk to me on MSN or Skype or if you don’t have any u can just e mail me anytime.

My MSN and E mail is:
    My Skype is: malania.mako

I’ll try my best to help u all, u can always talk to me. :)

DEFINITELY tell your doctor everything you have said here.I had similar problems growing up and i became an alcoholic trying to be more out-going. Naturally, it only made things worse and it it’s certainly not the answer. There are a boatload of medications out there to deal with social anxiety and none of them are habit-forming. Don’t be surprised if your doctor refers you to a psychiatrist because family doctors aren’t trained in problems such as these, but believe me, there is no shame in seeing a psychiatrist it doesn’t mean you’re crazy, millions of people see them for disorders such as ours. Please, please for your own happiness tell your doctor. It sure helped me!

Go to your doctor and hell him/her your symptoms. I know it’ll be hard to get help when you have a social phobia but you need to work up the courage and do it or you wont get the help you need. Your doctor will probably prescribe you a medication and possibly therapy as well if you indeed have social anxiety.

Definitely go see a doctor, it sounds like you need some help. Don’t listen to the guy who’s all down on medication, it can work wonders; if you don’t like the effects you can try a different med or a lower dose. If you are prescribed an SSRI, be careful. The first couple weeks to a month can be very hard, that was when I spent the most time contemplating *******. My doctor didn’t prepare me for the effects. Basically, you start to get your energy back, but it just gives the crazy thoughts more energy. Once your body adjusts though, the thoughts start to fade to a tolerable level. They aren’t ever gone, but you can tune them out.
