How hard is it to get a waiver for past back pain if I am 21?

I was on some medication for it awhile back and it has gotten much better, I think it was just a pulled muscule. I had an MRI and xray done at my parents insistence and they didn’t show anything other than ‘minor dextroscoliosis’ but the doc told me that was normal and everyone has some of it. I want to join after I get out of college.

If the doctor cleared you I don’t see where there would be a problem. I would just exercise and strengthen your back to help stem any recurrences. Best of luck…….

You don’t need a waiver for back pain, if it was worse than a pulled muscle, you might need one.

I joined the Marines shortly after I had Knee surgery, and so long as your doctor signs off on it you should be ok. But just a piece of advice, if this condition causes you a lot of pain and/or is dibilitating consider a different career choice. What will happen if it becomes an issue is you will be put on a med board and possibly discharged, and it is possible that you may not get an honorable if they find out that you lied or were intentionaly misleading during the recruitment process. Also, there are many ways to serve your country so if it is something that precludes you from military service you’ll still be able to to do your part and in such a manner that is both good for the nation and you’re individual situation.
