Paully asked:
The anxiety leads to a sort of panic attack. Some of my worst symptoms include: tightness in chest and abdomen, sweating, irregular heartbeat- dizzyness, tingling and numbness in limbs- hyperventalation/shortness of breath. This has unfortunately gotten so bad its seriously affected my life. I have found no cure for it yet. I cant go out and be social without having these constant attacks- they get so bad that i feel i might die or pass out. When i feel one coming on i just drop whatever it is im doing and go lay down till it passes. Sometimes they last for months on end. Sleep seems to be the only temporary relief for me. My doctor prescribed me with a powerful antidepressant, and that didnt help at all- i self medicate myself using alcohol- this seems to be the only thing that calms me down.. Does anyone know of a better way or a cure to eliminate this misery from my life.

alcohol doesnt help at all, so you might as well drop that before you get addicted to it. and while your at it you should probably find a therapist because they can teach you certain techniques to calm yourself down when you feel one coming on, and sometimes talking about it helps too. Good luck!!

Have you told your doctor that the antidepressant doesn’t work? There are a variety of different types out there that still need to be tried before you can give up on that option. Also they often take 4-6 for the full effect to occur, so you need to give it some time. You also need to put away the alcohol. It is a depressant and will work against any issues you have or medication you are taking. You may also want to look into therapy to determine what is triggering your anxiety and to discover methods to eliminate this stress.

find an online or local anxiety support group or ask the dr. to change your meds. Also if you have family or a church family ask them to pray for you if you believe it will help.

first off drinking will help now but it will become a problem l8r and ask to take test to find out what you really have its just these papers that you fill out and it can tell you if you are depressed or bipolar and more it sounds like you should get some anti anxiety meds i am bipolar and i have those same things it is really scary i found that if i talk to someone i am really close wit hit helps for a while but sleep is what makes it go away for me too another thing if you do take the tests and you are bipolar anti depressants wont work you need anti psychotics i know it sounds like a scary word but they work best to control the manic part but i am NO doc so go see a councilor or therapist they will help you trust me it will get better

I am so anti medicine, so I think its pointless for doctors to prescribe them, the just mask the problem rather than helping them. And drinking can actually bring on more panic attacks. I’ve been suffering from panic attacks for 8 years. The first year for me was the hardest, my dr put me on meds, which only made them worst, I went to counselling, which was pointless because the counselor had never suffered from panic attacks, so he couldn’t understand when I told him they would come on for no reason. I have the same exact symptoms as you when I get them, I even sometimes get so worked up the I slur my speech, which in turn freaks me out even more. What I found that works for me is when I can feel one come on, I try to get up and get myself busy, I don’t care if its cleaning my cat boxes, or going in to talk to one of my kids, I try to get my mind away from the panic attack. And for the ones that seem to come out of no where, you know, the ones that give no warning, I call someone. And I just tell them to talk to me, about anything, and I also tell them NOT to ask if I’m okay. For some reason when people ask me if I’m alright during a panic attack it makes it worst. Another thing that works for me, and this sounds really weird, but a cold shower. For some reason I start to think about how cold the water is and totally forget about what made me freak out. I hope that one day you can learn to cope with them. And you don’t ever let people tell you that you do it for attention, cause you and I both know that our lives would be so much better without panic attacks.

i have had the same problem for years, i think xanax works really well for me, especially when i feel like one is coming on, i can take a pill and about 30-40 minutes i can focus more and get “back to life”

Medicine is overrated. I recommend working out at the gym and running as much as possible. Run the crazy the out of ya as my dad always says. Break a sweat everyday. Exercising is a cure all for about everything.

drinking alcohol is only going to make it worse in the long run, i know from experience. Have you already stopped drinking coffee, caffeine, sugary drinks? I found that I’m extremely sensitive to these and they cause energy surges that could lead to anxiety or panic attacks. Even just eating a donut can cause me to get the jitters and get nervous. I’ve been checked for everything, no i’m not diabetic, or high or low anything, I’m just sensitive to certain things. If I take a little bit of Nyquil, it knocks me out and the next day I feel like i’m recovering from a night out drinking. So try cutting down on certain drinks or foods that could be increasing your nerves or making you more jittery and leading to anxiety.

Hi my friend, I use to be like you but I could cure by myself be
cause I dedicated to look for information in books, TV and radio programs, and at the end I stop feeling like that. One of the thing that can help you is to find out what are you afraid to?,, after that you can ask your self what is the worst thing that can happen to you if what you are afraid happen ? then after that you will visualise what you can do. Another thing you can do is when you feel this way, go to an apart place and write down everything that come to your mind, it can be good or bad, the point of this is to “clean” your mind. And something very important, never that you feel this way go to sleep, because this is like to scape from the problem, the best way is to do something to take a training , go and learn something take a new skill, keep yourself busy. Also try to understand your problem, and one crisis come to you THINK! and ask yourself, why and feeling like this? when you find the answer, try to fixed, if it somebody in particular talk to that person, and you will see that the problem will be less and less, maybe is your work, you may not like it, if is like that change it!, if is your relationship with a person keep away! do not allow nobody to make your life miserable, be happy, live your present. Remember we are create for being happy that’s our goal in this life! good luck!

Doctor prescribed medications never work, they mess with your mind!! (as you may now know) I’m 15 and I used to suffer from horrible anxiety and stress. I get the anxiety from my dad. He had it even worse than I did though It was horrible, life was meiserable. He was so so scared to talk to people, make a single phone call, or do anything. He eventually got to the point where he didn’t want to live anymore,He just stayed in bed. But 10 years back, my dad started taking Empowerplus. this is an ALL natural cure for mental illness. The way he learned of it was from my Aunt who helped developed this stuff, and finally cured herself from the most serious of mental illnesses. My dad is one of the happiest people alive now, and loves talking to people. My anxiety of talking to people, distressing over every little thing, damaging and preventing me from having any friends, came to an end when I took up what my dad was taking. I can not stress this to you any more. Try this stuff! Not only is it the only thing that works, but it works naturally. Read the reviews, find out how ALL lives have been altered who have taken it. I myself am a personal witness! Try it, use it! If you want to be cured and be happy I swear to you, this stuff will work. If you need any more info about it, I’ve got it all. This stuff works miracles, it is a miracle.

This too shall pass There is supplements called Theanine derived from green tea that is very popular in Japan where they even use it in chewing gum
“Theanine induces relaxation without causing drowsiness, as measured by increased generation of alpha-waves. Theanine may improve learning ability and sensations of pleasure by affecting dopamine and serotonin neurotransmitters in the brain”
I have a close friend who went through a phase of heavy duty anxiety like you and he took them and got over it. You can do a search on it at which is a non for profit organization that does research on supplements especially anti aging. You can also go see a good hypno-therapist and that works too but is more costly. Anxiety starts as a misinterpreted signal which causes anxiety related symptoms which replace normal reactions and become the set way of reacting when something triggers it… You have to reprogram yourself or if you take the supplements what happens is you desensitize yourself and reset normal or previous mode of behavior or reaction. That’s it that’s all. No need to panic about it it’s easily curable!
Oh thanks rooroo my sister had been diagnosed as manic depressive but got badly screwed up and was in a coma by the pills they treated her with in the hospital and believe it or not but it caused some brain damage so yes I know what meds can do. I will tell her about true hope Thanks!

Ask your doctor to change prescriptions and please don’t take alcohol! My sister was on zoloft but it didn’t work so her doctor put her on a new perscription that works for her. Trust me its a matter of finding what works for you. For some its drugs alone, others medication and therapy. Don’t give up just yet ok?
TROY
I would ask your doctor to get you off of the anti depressent and on something like zanex or clonazepam … these definitly help anxiety (BUT THE ARE ADDICTIVE!). Also, stay out!! that is the best advice i could give you.. my anxiety got to the point where i was so scared to go out that i never did, and that makes it so much harder. So even if you have bad anxiety when you are out, you need to face it… little by little. meditate, work out, stay busy. good luck
