Extreme lower back pain and 13 weeks pregnant?
January 13th, 2012
MommyX2 asked:
I have the worst pain in my lower back and down my left leg. It hurts when I bend over when I sit and when I lay on my back. It also hurts when I am just standing. Did anyone else experience this and if so what can I do to feel better? Also this is my third pregnancy and I did not have this pain with my other two children although I did have extemely bad back labor with both of them.
I just wanted to add that I am not sitting for long periods and I have two other children who I am very active with.

I’m not sure what this could be. Are you drinking plenty of water?

Yes, it’s your sciatic nerve. It hurts like a son of a B…..
Get on all fours, and do cat stretches/ Curl your spine outward like a hissing cat. HOld and then arch your back. Repeat. This will encourage that baby to move and it will relieve some of the pressure.

It may be hard since you already have two children, but try to find some time where you can lay down in a warm bath. My Dr. prescribed warm baths to me for my tail bone pain.

I have had the same problem almost the whole time so far (I’m at 17 weeks)! It gets way worse on days I work but if I relax on my days off with my feet up it doesn’t bother me then. The only way I have found is to sit in my recliner at home with my feet up. It has good back support. Sleeping with a pillow between my knees also helps at night as well as sleeping on my side. I read that this early back pain goes away by 20 weeks or so. I am interested in others’ advice as well since I haven’t been terribly successful in getting it to go away.

Because it is going down your leg it could possibly be a nerve in your lower back pinching. This can be rather painful. hot packs and massage helped me, also walking was helpful. if it gets bad ask Dr what you can take for pain.

Maybe your on this computer too much, that will make your lower back hurt. hope you feel better soon. A lot of shopping caused this same problem for me when I was pregnant.

I’ve been having really bad back pain since I was about 8/10 weeks along. It sucks, I know. But trust me as you get further along you’ll just realize more aches and pains all over! My doctor suggested swimming to me. And since I was about 10 weeks along I’ve been going swimming for an hour every day. I don’t mean like lap swimming or anything, what I do is take my honey’s 13 year old niece to the pool with me (if you have two younger kids, then they’d love to go as I’m sure!!) and we shoot hoops at the little basketball hoop, play catch and volleyball or I’ll just swim/float around while she dives for rings or does tricks or does her thing. The swimming releases SOOOOO much built up tension in your body! It’s really amazing. I try to get to the pool every day and as long as I go swimming I sleep like a baby at night but when I don’t make it to the pool my aches and pains are keeping me up ALL night long! Even if you can’t make it every day, every other day or a few times a week is better than anything and will really help release all the built up tension in your body. As far as not ever having this pain wih your other pregnancies…while each and every woman is different so is each and every pregnancy. You may have had morning sickness really bad with one, none with another, and just a little with another. Each pregnancy is unique and has it’s own symptoms, some worse than others. Good luck with the rest of your pregnancy, congrats on the baby and I wish you a safe and healthy delivery!!

congratualions try having someone roll a tennise ball around on your lower back it will massage the area. your preiviouse deliveries may have caused a pinched nerve in you lower back. prior to getting out of bed try this simple exercise.with your legs strech them out stright towards the foot of the bed of about 5-10 sec.s the relax and then extend your arms toward the head of the bed strech out for 5-10 sec. when done gentely roll onto your side use you arms to suport your uuper body then setup slowly and sit for 5-10 sec. now stand up slowly hope you feel better. tell your doctor about your pain maybe they can do an ultra sound of your lumbar spine
