Does taking paroxetine or paxil lower the strength of an ********. And overall bad sexual performance?

david asked:

I wish I could get off this med because it really screws with nervous system, making me more anxious, worried, scared, And generally threatened by life’s situations. I need to feel balanced & secure to be functional and strong. I have wife & 3 children to help & raise. So I wish I could get off of this stupid medication, but the side- effects are dreadful. Is there anyone who knows about a natural supplement that cures anxiety & panic disorder and also improves sexual performance. I need a safe alternative because I am worried of getting off paxil & suffering because of it. If yur a doctor MD or a specialist in alternative medicine that’s a plus!

yes, an adverse reaction to Paxil is impotence, abnormal ejaculation, decreased libido. Most antidepressants unfortunately have these side effects. And some of these meds are used for anxiety too.
Talk with your doctor about some other alternatives. You need to slowly taper off Paxil. Do not stop cold turkey.

Paxil/paroxetine is an SSRI and all the SSRIs can have adverse sexual side effects. They’re usually prescribed for depression and there are many other drugs for treating that condition. If that’s what you’re taking it for, talk to your doctor about switching to one.

If you’re taking it for anxiety, talk to your doctor about switching to Buspar (buspirone), which is specifically prescribed for anxiety.

When considering alternative medicines, remember that “herbal” does not equal “safe.” You can get bad reactions from them, too. I know several people who reacted very badly to St. John’s wort, for example. Approach with caution and be sure to tell your doctor what you’re taking.
