Do i have depression, anxiety disorder or something like that?
March 22nd, 2010
Eric asked:
Ever since i can remember i have been a nervous person, constantly finding little things to worry about. Over the past few years its been getting worse, to the point now where im constantly nervous. Its beginning to interfere with my life and my grades have dropped. Now suddenly tonight i just began to cry for no reason. I’m 16 years old and both my mom and uncle have depression. Should i go see a doctor?

Yes, you should. First, take a deep breath. Remember, even though you feel badly right now, you aren’t in any danger at this moment. Anxiety works in a loop, it’s called a negative feedback loop, and the more you worry, the more tense you feel, the more tense you feel, the more you worry, it spirals out of control.
Consider calling a mental health helpline like the Girl’s and Boy’s Town hotline:

“nervous, worry, getting worse, constantly nervous, interfere with my life and my grades, crying….. I’m sorry to hear about your situation and know how difficult it can be to go through life worrying all the time. A certain amount of worrying is normal- in fact, it can actually be beneficial, if it is something like worrying about someone else’s feelings or being concerned about how well you are doing in school. But, it seems like you are worrying about things a whole lot, and this is taking away from your being a teenager and enjoying your friends, family, school and other activities.
When you feel yourself starting to get nervous about something you can stop for a second and think about what it is that you are so concerned about, and then try to figure out whether or not it is a realistic thing to be worrying about. If these things do not work, then next step would be to seek out professional help. You can talk to a counselor at school or your family doctor for a referral to a mental health professional who is trained to deal with all sorts of issues, including anxiety problems.
It seems you have anxiety symptoms and should be referred to your doctor, with time they dont get better but worse if untreated: Ask for help, you will be glad you did it. Best Wishes and luck!!
Take Care As Always!!
