Could you cry during a panic or anxiety attack?

March 3rd, 2010

[Mary] asked:

I’m 16 and I was diagnosed with General Anxiety Disorder and depression (what a great mix right?) (not only that but it cause headaches everyday) and anyway I haven’t done much research but when I have these ‘attacks’ I normally start breathing real hard to the point where I hyperventilate, I get dizzy, and sick and I just freak out so much that I cry. Is it normal to cry if someone has an attack? Thanks.
Everyone is so nice here on Mental Issues. LoL.
Thanks!

That’s totally normal to cry, yes. Hang in there. Your headaches might be tension related, lov. You might have less pain as you learn to control panic attacks.

Actually, I have the same thing as you, but I’m only 15. But yeah, thats normal. That all happens to me too, and I throw up. Its a big mess. But its normal to cry during it, just let it out.

Yes I cry when I have them too. I feel really stupid because normally there’s no reason for it but I just lie there sobbing and crawling into the corner and hugging my pillow really tight trying to make myself as small as possible.

lol and most of us are here coz we have problems or know people with problems so yeah, we know how scary it can be. :)
