My girlfriend is on her 8th week of pregnancy but she’s been having a constant pain in her lower abdomen and lower back for 5 days now, although it’s bearable most of the time, from time to time, the pain is excruciating. We went to our OB and had a transV and according to our doctor, this is part of pregnancy.

Has anyone experienced this? Is it really normal? I’ve read about miscarriages and she has all the symptoms except bleeding, I’m afraid this will lead to miscarriage.

I would definitely get a second opinion, that sounds way scary. I am a momma and didn’t have any pain till it was time for labor, but mine was an easy pregnancy.
That can’t be normal, and she should at least see one more professional just to put her mind at rest. maybe they could tell you the reason why it hurts?
if you told your OB this and they didnt do anything more
(wich is probably the reason your asking) you need to find a new doctor . most woman dont even know they’re pregnant that early. i never had that it seems serious . id say go to the doctor. your hospital should have a hotline where you can tell them your symptoms and they will tell you if you should go to the hospital or if yourok .. dont let this just go by seriously get her checked out!!

Could be round ligament pain. Horrible, horrible pain. Snatch your breath away. Feels like fire, or a hot knife. It comes from the growth of the uterus; it is stretching the ligaments that hold it in place and it is a right pain.
Can’t really do anything about it, either. Normal, healthy… and freakin painful. LIke childbirth. Sorry is isn’t better news.
if she is small framed, then it could be normal because her body is adjusting itself for pregnancy. With all four pregnancies, the only time I had terrible pain early on was when I had a urinary tract infection which are common in pregnancies. Her doctor should test her for that. Its not that difficult. If she is clean of uriniary infection, then I would be concerned and would go to ANOTHER doctor . Some doctors are lazy and dont care, while OTHERs care and will hlep her figure out where the pain is coming from

I’ve been having it too since about the fourth week. The doctor checked me out for it twice now (checked for UTI and signs of miscarriage or abnormal pregnancy) and there doesn’t seem to be anything wrong (I’m now 14 weeks). She thinks it’s probably just my muscles and ligaments stretching due to the pregnancy. She told me to take warm showers to relax the muscles and take regular strength tylenol when it gets really bad which does help (I use it when it hurts too much to walk). I had an appointment two days ago and the baby was just fine so this is apparently not hurting the baby, just making me extremely uncomfortable.
If it keeps getting worse for your girlfriend or doesn’t improve, it can’t hurt to call and go back. You’re not bothering the doctor. They’re PAID to listen to our problems and find a reason and/or solution. Maybe your GF’s doctor can suggest something for the pain. Don’t have her take anything until it’s been okayed.
