Does meditation affect the brain on a neurological level? Are there studies related to this idea?

jay_brooklyn asked:

Meditation does wonderful things for how you feel, and how you deal with the stresses of life. Which studies scientifically chart how the brain changes due to mediation, and if meditation can be useful in preventing or curing anxiety disorders, or any other mental illnesses? Which types of meditation proved the most effective in changing people’s lives (and brains) for the better?

Religious people who talk about sex/abstinence?

February 4th, 2011

hsethi123 asked:

How do religious people know *** is good or bad without having ***? It is true that *** is not a cure for depression or anxiety or lack of self-esteem or confidence. This truth–many people know after having *** or do not know this until they mature. What is the true need for *** that religious people do not know about? *** is not a sin/wrong if it is not overdone or an addiction, correct?

Do you believe that all depression is caused by breaking one (or several) of God’s commandments?

Little Angel asked:

For example, not working 6 days out of the week and resting on the seventh or eating blood and fat. Sleeping too much, eating unclean animals, not loving God and remembering Him and His ways, etc. I ask this b/c my husband has depression and anxiety. He takes drugs for this but they don’t cure him, just make him numb.
