mariobro_619 asked: Hi I’m 19 years old. I found out that I have depression and social anxiety. I been feeling so sad and lonley for about a month. I recently quit my fast food job because it was making it things worse. Now I am jobless. I’m so shy asking for applications. I don’t know what to do about it. I try to hid it from people because I don’t wana them to think I’m crazy. I make my mom feel guilty and it upsets me. I avoid people because I don’t want them to know I’m depressed. Somtimes I feel blessed. Most of the time like ****. It seems like the sadness wins most of the time. I feel like giving up. So tired and stressed. When I go outside or on a bus I feel like everybody looking at me and judging me like they feel sorry for me. When a person talks to me my mind goes blank and I can’t concentrate. I can’t make eye contact I avoid it so much. Then they give me a look like “what’s wrong with you”? I make people feel uneasy. I just want to be myself but I’m scared. I don’t want them to treat me like a baby. It makes just things worse. When people ask “how are you” I lie. I tell them that everything is all right. When it’s not. What do I do?

Repenting asked: I never knew there was a name for my chronic shyness until Thursday this week. I have suffered all of my life (I’m 26) because of this. I have taken Lebowitz test my score was 105 which is severe Social anxiety. I am not able to get a job or go to school. I can’t make my daughter’s doctors appt., my sisters make most of my important phone calls, I experience the worst anxiety when meeting new people or ordering at restaurants. In high school my gpa suffered because I skipped class or found ways to be absent. My husband is a public speaker and I try to find ways to not attend his events. I **** to answer our phone. He doesn’t understand whats wrong with me but he loves me anyway. I NEED help! I know I need to make an appointment with the doctor, but how do I get the nerve? Am I eligible for SSI? My husband is pressuring me to get a job and I cant stomach the thought. I had to quit my last job as the pressure of interacting stressed me out. Depressed:( Please help! I’m at wit’s end:(
think it would be wise for me to seek a way to add to my family’s income. I am not an unfit parent in the least. To say so is very insensitive on your part. I have a very dedicated husband and my child is very well taken care of. there is no reason why i should not seek benefits if the government is willing to help while I seek the help I need.
Thanks for your reply.
fYI: The SSI is to help me and my family UNTIL I complete treatment.
The detail I’ve added above was to a yahoouser who answered this same question that I’ve also posted to the psychology section. I just thought I’d put my response here in case another user wondered the same thing.

paranoidpal07 asked: I’m 21, and as long as I can remember I’ve been very shy. For most of my life, that’s all I thought it was, shyness. However, now I starting to fear it might be social anxiety and/or social phobia. The only people I truly feel comfortable around are the people I see or talk to on a regular basis (my parents and very close friends). I even feel anxious and uncomfortable around many of my relatives. I got a big wake up call on my last day of class this semester. I am majoring in elementary education; something I love, however one of my instructors who is also my advisor told me that if I don’t get over my shyness, I am not going to be successful in teaching. She basically said, if I don’t do something to fix my problem over the holiday break, I need to find a different major. This really hit me hard. Recently I heard about hypnotherapy. I was wondering if any of you have heard about it curing or helping people with social anxiety or social phobia. I am desparate.
I just want to feel comfortable around people.

Lepke asked:
I’ve been trying to find information on the Internet with no success. Thanks for your help.
Thanks for the compassion! … just to clarify, I am talking about social anxiety that is WAY beyond just shyness!
Yes, we are scheduled to have him evaluated in September (this was the earliest appointment we could get) to see what the root cause of the problem is. But was wondering if it does turn out to be an anxiety disorder are there medications that would work since I am not sure that cognitive-behavioral therapy would work for a 3 year old.

winnipeg sucks asked: My anxiety today and other days this week has been overboard. I think it is due to the change in season with the sun coming out and people are more energetic and vibrant etc. I am really going through a hard time with this and would love any advise to help stop it.
