Can I mix Paxil and St.John’s Wort for my anxiety disorder or will it have bad effects?

I have panic disorder and I’ve been on Paxil for about 2 months now and I still get anxiety from time to time. I was wondering if I could take St. John’s Wort like before I go to school and see if it will help ease my anxiety. Is it ok to mix or just leave it alone?

Don’t unless your doc signs off. Some supplements like St. John’s Wort seriously don’t mix well. Also, as far as I know, SJW doesn’t do much of anything for anxiety.

DO NOT MIX!! St. Johns Wart is really not going to help you for your type of anxiety. Paxil may not be right either. There are many different kinds to try with your doctor. Ask your doctor for an emergency supply of ativan, like 10 pills. Only use it for emergencies, like once a month! What helps me is to go to therapy and learn skills on dealing with my anxiety. Getting anxiety from time to time sounds like all you need is a few skills on understanding that it is only a mind distortion. Pretend that you are on a rollercoaster, your anxiety is building & building, then when you think you can not take it any longer, you will be heading down the rollercoaster & feeling better!! Ride that through your mind, it will help! Also, remember you are mostly calm & happy in a 24 hour period, your tinges of anxiety are only a few minutes or so, don’t let that little bit affect your whole day!! Stay calm, breathe & work through this! I know you will feel better!
There is no comprehensive study and is not enough research about how SJW will interact with SSRI (Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors), which is Paxil. To be honest with you I was doing it myself mixing SSRIs and SJW, mostly because of desperation – you are trying one medicine, then another; nothing seemingly works…
