Anxiety?

Hey all. Let me get down to the point… Sometimes throughout the day, I have a hard time breathing, like it’s extremely hard to breath, I feel so much pressure on my lungs, I get hot, I get aggravated, and sweat a little bit. I went to the doctor’s, and they said that I don’t have asthma. So, I don’t know what the hell I have, but I tried smoking whenever this shitty thing happens to me, and it goes away. Smoking is harmful for the body and I want to quit, but I don’t want to have trouble breathing again. I’ve tried eating gum [as an alternative to smoking] whenever I get this breathing attack, but I’d still get it. I’ve tried having seeds, but still the same thing. I’ve tried those two because whenever I ge the urge to smoke, I just have gum or seeds, and usually the urge goes away. So, I’d like to know what the hell is wrong with me so I won’t have to smoke before I become really addicted. I just **** that nicotine after taste.

I asked this question earlier, and according to some, it’s anxiety. Where do I go for that? Do I go to my normal pediatrician? (I’m 17 btw) I went there before, and the guy made it look like I was faking this whole thing, what an *******. This is from 2 years ago…

By the by: please dont give me stupid answers like oh! you should tell the master general health **** that you found a cure to breathlessness, or something stupid like that.

If you really think it is anxiety, you should see your doctor again. You will either be put on medication or you will see some sort of counselor. I suffer from anxiety as well. Anxiety is when your body releases adrenaline at the wrong times. That usually causes nausea, a nervous feeling in your stomach, headaches etc. Something is making you feel anxious, and you need to find out what it is so you can correct this problem. Another suggestion is to buy some books on anxiety. They give great tips on how to deal with it. There is breathing techniques, and other tips on how to prevent it from happening. Whenever you feel like that, do something to try and take your mind off of it.

    Good luck

I feel for you, this does sound like regular anxiety.

Number one, the smoking will be having NO physical effect on calming you down. Smokers actually have an increased heart rate before they have a cigarette BECAUSE of addiction withdrawl, the smoking itself doesn’t calm them. You probably have mentally made yourself believe that it’s helping, especially if the gum etc didn’t help.

Don’t start smoking. I wish I hadn’t. It’s so highly addictive, so expensive, you stink, you’re antisocial and I’ll probably die young.

What you should do is speak to your GP again and tell him you believe it’s anxiety and see what he says. There are medications (low level ones) that you can take just for a little while to let your body and mind get over this.

I wish you luck sweetheart, you can and will get over it.

You may have anxiety problems, but your ‘breathing’ problem has a very simple and easy ‘cure.’ Carry a small brown paper bag with you, and when you start having this problem, open the bag, close it around your mouth and breathe slowly into it for five minutes. What is ‘happening’ is that you are hyperventilating … basically taking in ‘too much air’ not getting too little air. Paper bags are less expensive than seeds, gum, and you can ‘come down’ to a normal breathing level much more quickly. Go see a psychiatrist within the next month, but toward the end of the month, and after you have used the ‘bag breathing’ to stop your hyperventilation so the psychiatrist can test you for ‘anxiety’ more easily, and you can ‘feel better’ and perhaps you won’t hyperventilate’ as much when you get your diagnosis. I seriously doubt you have ‘anxiety’ … what you have is a simple ‘fear’ of losing your breath that sets you off more frequently. You’ll be much happier when you are able to breathe more normally.
